On Ice on taiteilija Maija Hirvasen uusi liikkeellinen esitys, joka nivoutuu vinksahtaneen naishahmon ympärille. Koreografinen performanssi piirtää muotokuvan nykynaisesta sosiaalidemokraattisessa yhteiskunnassa. Naamioituneena cheer leaderin asuun, esiintyjä käy läpi menneen ja edessä olevan elämän tapahtumia ja mahdollisuuksia. Tämä kannustamisen asiantuntija on pudonnut portailta, kehitellyt omia huutojaan ja sotkenut muutaman muunkin asian.
Esitys luodaan 49 toiminnon, 49 tekstin, 49 liikkeen ja 49 huudon kautta. On Ice katsoo sitä, kuinka ihminen esiintyy jokapäiväisessä elämässään, harvinaisissa tilanteissa ja yllätettynä. Liiketarinoissa käsitellään käsityksiä kehosta ja sen kykeneväisyydestä, sisua tai ihmisten riippuvaisuutta toisistaan. Inspiroituneena kannustusjoukoista, onnenpotkuista ja mielipideosastojen kirjoituksista, On Ice kannustaa omalta osaltaan myönteiseen huutamisen ja liikkumisen kulttuuriin.
Esityksen valmistamiseksi koreografi ja tanssija ovat vierailleet mm. HIFK:n cheerleadereiden mukana jääkiekko-ottelussa, opetelleet ulkoa pitkiä luetteloita suurnaisten nimiä ja huutaneet enemmän kuin koskaan yhden kevään aikana.

A woman walks to her place, stops and struggles a bit. Great! She does a couple of things, gathers her thoughts. She rushes forwards and places herself in a circle of light. She begins.
(The sound of drums fill the air)
On Ice is a choreographic performance story. It portrays the state of contemporary female in a social-democratic society. Disguised in an outfit of a cheer leader, the performer goes through events and possibilities linked to past and forthcoming life. This expert of encouraging has fallen off the stairs, developed her own shouts and messed up a couple of other things too.
The performance is created through 49 actions, 49 texts, 49 movements and 49 shouts. ‘On Ice’ pays attention to how a human performs in her everyday life, in rare events and on moments of surprise. The movement stories of the performance deal with conceptions of the body or the body’s capability. Inspired by cheering troupes, lucky kicks and opinion columns, On Ice creates positive culture of shouting and moving.
To prepare the performance, the choreographer and the dancer have visited ice hockey games with the cheerleaders, learned by heart long lists of great women and shouted more than ever during one spring.
